GE Plastics

GE Plastics is an international supplier of  Engineering  Plastics  and  represents  the  fastest growing business   within   the  General   Electric   Company,  one  of   the  most  diversified manufacturing, technology  and service company in the world. The  company  is  pro-active in  stimulating change; bringing new application ideas  and  new process technology based on high performance Engineering Plastics.

GE  Plastics  India  or GEPI as it is known, is a  joint  venture   company  of   Indian  Petrochemical Corporation and  GE Plastics B.V. From  its Baroda  Plant GEPI offers three of the world’s top plastics – "LEXAN" Polycarbonate, "NORYL" Modified PPO and "VALOX". Thermoplastic Polyester resins.

LEXAN: -
Polycarbonate resins
*High impact strength   *Temperature resistance   *Dimensional stability   *UV stability
*Wide processing window   *Electrical properties   *Flame retardancy   *Transparent or opaque colors
Characteristics:  LEXAN  polycarbonates   are   an  amorphous  engineering thermoplastic, which combines  superior  mechanical,   optical,   thermal  and  electrical  properties  offered separately by metals, glass and other plastics. It is  available in a wide  range of viscosities, unfilled, glass-filled, and flame retardant grades. Its natural color  is glass clear, however LEXAN is available in a wide range of colors with transparent, translucent and opaque versions.
Impact Resistance: LEXAN is  virtually  unbreakable. It offers outstanding impact strength over a wide temperature range ( 40 deg. C to 145 deg. C)
Heat Resistance: LEXAN   maintains   its   strength  and  other  properties  upto  145 deg. C. Its continuous use temperatures of various grades go upto 125 deg. C.
Flame retardancy: LEXAN’S   inherent  flame retardancy matches or surpasses a wide variety of standardized  flame  tests.  Rating   by  Underwriters  Laboratories (UL) for LEXAN vary from UL 94V-2 to V-0 and 5V for different grades.
Long – term stability: LEXAN  is   dimensionally  stable  due to  its  high creep resistance, low water absorption and high resistance to UV-radiation and weathering.
Chemical  and  Environmental  Resistance: LEXAN  resins  remain  stable   when  exposed  to normal environmental conditions. However, lubricants gaskets, rings, cleaning  solvents or any other material which may come in contact  with  the finished part should be carefully  evaluated under end use conditions for compability.

APPLICATIONS :

Lighting

Communications
Automotive and Transportation
Building and Construction
Household Appliances
Safety and Security Applications

Processing : To achieve high quality molding, moisture content of LEXAN polycarbonate granules should be lower than 0.03%. Pre-drying at a temperature of 120 degree Centigrade for 2 to 4 hours is essential. Mould temperature is normally 80- 120 degree Centigrade, at which levels good surface finish and low residual stress.
Cylinder temperature ranges between 270 degree Centigrade 320 degree Centigrade depending on flow length, wall thickness and the LEXAN grade used.
